The Mission of DOVE

The mission of Dove Missions is to bring hope to the widowed and orphans, to bring joy to the handicapped and the homeless children, and to provide nourishment to the hungry, education to the uneducated, medical assistance to the ill, refuge to the abandoned and abused, and love to the lost and lonely.

Our Beginnings

DOVE Missions was founded by Liz McKie in 2002 and became a 501(c)(3) in 2004. For 6 years, Liz led mission trips from Minnesota to Puerto Plata where volunteers brought donations from the United States and distributed them to needy individuals through local service organizations and orphanages. These volunteers also participated in feeding programs, a dump ministry and educational programs in collaboration with the following organizations: Casa Nazaret and Mustard Seed (children's homes), Casa Albergue De Martina (orphanage), and Intergracion Juvenil and Escuela Nunez Sordomudos (vocational schools that teach sewing, cosmetology, and woodworking). Dove Missions volunteers have also participated in building two churches: one in Cristo Rey, Puerto Plata, and the other in Munoz. In 2008, Liz moved to Puerto Plata to work full time as Dove Missions' Field Team Director. In this capacity she guides and supervises volunteers from all over the world.

Our biggest accomplishment occurred in 2009 when we founded the Dove Missions Vocational and Recreation Center, located in one of the most impoverished and needy slums of Puerto Plata. In addition to Liz's oversight and coordination of volunteers working in the center, we also have a part time Vocational and Recreation Center Director, who designs and implements educational and vocational programs for the boys and girls living in the neighborhoods we serve.
